Have you ever wondered why the Chinese Zodiac is linked to animals? The year of the Dog, the year of the Horse, and so on. (I myself am a Rooster.)
An eye-opening animal communication session I had recently got me to thinking that perhaps the ancient Chinese sages were clued into something that we have forgotten about as time has gone by: That our connection with animals goes much deeper than we might suspect.
My little message-bearer was a flop-eared bunny named Poppy, and I spoke with him in his spirit form, for he had departed this life very suddenly, leaving his most beloved person devastated.
Poppy gave me a whole new view and perspective on the relationship between us humans and the other animal species we interface with in our lives—be they bunnies, dogs, cats, horses, reptiles, sharks, or hummingbirds. He described how that link goes much deeper than most of us realize–it involves our very essence. The following excerpt from my conversation with Poppy is included here with full permission, and because Poppy’s mistress was intent on knowing if Poppy would reincarnate and come back to her, he began this part of the conversation as follows:
POPPY: What is important to know is that souls like us are never separate. And we will always incarnate, over and over, in order to manifest part of our soul growth as physical beings on Earth. BUT, more times than not, we do not recognize one another when we come into that form of existence. Because, as you know, one of the “rules” for growth while on Earth is that we must be “reminded” of things we know spiritually, rather than be born with all of them in full consciousness. ………
LETA: All right. So, from what you are saying, I would surmise that maybe Michelle should not necessarily expect you back in a similar form to the Poppy you were this last time.
POPPY: Exactly. That said, the rabbit/bunny form is of particular advantage to her at this time in her life because of the traits and sensitivities it exhibits. She is like a bunny herself. They are one of the most sensitive life forms on Earth, vibrationally. And also one of the smartest—though people never give them credit for that! She is like them. She is an exquisite being. She will be able to open many hearts with her sensitivity. She must never, ever harden herself against her feelings. …….. Once a bunny hardens itself, that is when it often dies from shock. ……..
LETA: And, in human form, what would happen to Michelle’s “bunny essence” were she to harden herself too much?
POPPY: She would become sick and eventually die. But, in a hardened psyche, she wouldn’t even realize that that was what made her sick. It happens all the time to people when they harden themselves. They become ill. (Here he shows me there are many, many bunny essence folks on this planet, which makes me laugh!)
Wow. MAYBE, just MAYBE, one of the reasons we humans love, adore, and idolize so many of our animal companions is that we share their essence, on a level of being we have never, or only rarely, considered before.
I’m thinking that if we find ourselves drawn to a particular species, we might want to take a closer look at that species’ characteristics and personality traits and compare them to our own. Not only might we find some clues as to our own strengths and weaknesses, but we might also learn new ways to navigate through this life.
What traits of YOUR favorite animal do you need to start honoring that might help improve your life and relationships? Or perhaps of your Chinese Zodiak animal? Or what shared traits of that animal are you exhibiting that may be disadvantagous at this time? Interesting questions, for sure, and ones that I intend to meditate on. Being the animal person I am, I say there is no time to waste: We must all make sure we are honoring our “bunny (or horse, or dog, or cat …) Essence.”
